Can You Make It Ahead?
You can prepare this ahead and keep it refrigerated until about half an hour before you want to eat, and then you just have to pop it in the oven. One word of advice with this: never put a cold baking dish into a hot oven because of the risk of cracking. Put the baking dish in the oven and then turn the oven on and heat it up. This is much gentler on your cookware!
Storage Instructions:
Leftovers will be fine for 3 to 4 days if kept refrigerated. Reheat them in the microwave or in a hot oven.
Variations and Substitutions:
Feel free to use another kind of meat for the meatballs or use readymade ones. Add some vegetables to the casserole if you want – quartered small mushrooms would work well, or even a handful of baby spinach leaves.
