For this reason, we decided to put our own little spin on it and create for you a side dish worth sharing with everyone. Perfectly fried cabbage with chunks of crispy, sweet bacon, and sweet onion for a refreshing summer side.
Don’t think this can get any better? Well, buckle up your seat belts because we are cooking all of these delicious ingredients in bacon grease. This adds a savory and sweet level you wouldn’t traditionally get when using either butter or oil to fry your foods. Even if you aren’t a huge bacon fan, you need the grease for the flavor.
What if I don’t eat bacon and therefore have no bacon grease?
A close second (but does not provide the same quality of flavors) would be beef fat rendered down to cook your ingredients in. This will provide a delicious flavor without the sweetness you expect from bacon.
Can you give me some ideas of what to serve alongside my Fried Cabbage with Onions and Bacon?
Cabbage, bacon, and onions go really well with any summer protein dish you make. Whether it’s on the grill, smoker, air fryer, or the old-fashioned oven; you can’t go wrong with any option. Since the ingredients are infused with bacon grease; we recommend pork, chicken, or beef; however, you can even serve it with seafood! The flavors are outstanding and it’s a super light meal you can enjoy alone or with a main dish.
