Cheesesteak Tacos with Buffalo Fries Tips
- Start with a good quality steak. If you can, get your hands on a flank steak or skirt steak. These cuts of beef are well suited for tacos because they’re easy to chew and don’t require a lot of cooking time.
- Make sure to slice the steak against the grain. This will help ensure that your tacos are nice and tender.
- Be generous with the cheese! I like to use a mix of shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack, but feel free to use your favorite cheese.
- And last but not least, don’t forget the buffalo fries! They’re the perfect accompaniment to these flavorful tacos.
Cheesesteak Tacos with Buffalo Fries Variations
If you’re looking for a little something extra, try one of these variations on the classic cheesesteak taco:
- Add some sautéed peppers and onions to your tacos for a bit of sweetness and crunch.
- Give your tacos a spicy kick by adding some diced jalapeños or hot sauce to the mix.
- For a vegetarian version, replace the steak with sautéed mushrooms.
- Can’t get enough cheese? Top your tacos with a dollop of sour cream or Navajo fry bread for an extra cheesy treat!
Can you make it with steak?
Yes, a lot of times, we use ground beef because it’s a much cheaper cut of meat and still tastes great; however, if you want steak that works too! Slice it really thin to get the best results.
How to thinly slice steak?
Use a sharp knife and begin making cuts against the grain of the steak. It’s easiest to cut raw steak when it’s slightly frozen. It helps the knife glide across the meat, and you can get thinner slices. It’s also fine to cut it after it’s been cooked too.
Does Philly cheesesteak have sauce?
A traditional philly cheesesteak doesn’t have sauce on it. However, since you are making these into tacos, you can go wild and add any of your favorite sauces! We prefer buffalo sauce, but ranch is also really good.
Is Philly cheesesteak healthy?
Overall, this dish is reasonably healthy. The waffle fries and taco shells can be healthy if you reach for varieties that aren’t loaded with unhealthy ingredients. The toppings like cheese, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, avocado, and green onions are filled with nutrients.
Is Philly cheesesteak keto?
No, this recipe doesn’t fit into the keto lifestyle. However, if you omit the taco shells (or use a low-carb taco shell) and leave out the waffle fries, you can make a cheesesteak taco bowl that would be low-carb.
What to serve with
- Mexican rice
- Refried Beans
- Lime Wedges
- Homemade Guacamole
- Salsa or Pico de Gallo
- Corn
- Black Beans
Making ahead
To prep the food ahead, you can cook the ground beef mixture with the onions and taco seasoning. Cool, then refrigerate until ready to bake. You can also cut all the vegetables and have them in the fridge until it’s time to assemble.
Storage instructions
These tacos are going to be best served fresh. However, you can save leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes, or until hot all the way through.
