I stole a minute from last week’s hectic schedule to stroll through the aisles of an antique store. There were jadeite plates and old fashioned egg cups that I had to pry from my wanton hands. We’re on the regular Christmas budget, and there is no room for extravagant niceties like $20 bowls and $30 egg cups. And, anyhow. As much I’d like to stock my kitchen with the gentle green of jadeite, it’s something I can live without.
It was the Ball Perfect Mason jars that I simply couldn’t resist. I found several in the back corner of a quiet stall–shimmery blue treasures waiting to be uncovered. Once home, I gave them a thorough washing and filled them with an easy mix for light & crisp pecan waffles (just like the sort you’d order and devour at The Waffle House) then toted their pretty selves to a few beloved friends. Carrying those ancient blue jars made me feel somehow Christmassey and kind all at once. Antiques are lovely.
Antique jars with homemade pecan waffle mix? It’s enough to make me want to turn into a genie, inhabiting the innards of those translucent Masons. Blinking my eyes and gifting people everywhere with homemade waffles speckled with pecans and love.
Blink. Blink.
