If you are like me, coleslaw is the side of the summer season (say that five times fast). I know we are huge fans of all things summer, including great cookout foods that you can pick up from your local fast-food restaurant. When you don’t feel like breaking out every pan in the kitchen and sweating to death before the guests arrived.
Fried chicken and all the sides you could want from KFC make for a great dinner or hang-out meal. The coleslaw was something that I’m sure you were not into trying as a kid just based on the main ingredient; cabbage, but we are here to tell you that it’s absolutely amazing!
With how everything is going these days, ordering out; especially for a large crowd is almost impossible because it’s just so expensive.
So we came up with this Copy-Cat KFC Coleslaw recipe after a bunch of trial and error and finally perfected it! It tastes just like you scooped it right from those standard white and red foam containers.
It truly is a side dish that summer isn’t complete without. You can serve it alongside your favorite cookout meats and find the refreshing and puckering flavor.
KFC Coleslaw has simple ingredients with a secret ingredient; buttermilk.
What is buttermilk?
It is the liquid left over after churning the butter and has a slightly tangy and sour flavor. It is thicker than traditional milk and is used to fry chicken or as a thickener for some sauces. Buttermilk brings all the flavors together for the best coleslaw you have ever had.
Does this KFC Coleslaw need to be kept chilled?
Anything with dairy is best served chilled. Keep it chilled in your fridge right up until you are going to serve it. You can even place the bowl on an iced towel or a bowl of ice water for peak freshness if a fridge is nowhere in sight.
