Italian Drunken Noodles are one of our favorite recipes that combines a traditional Chinese dish with Italian flavors for a combination you would never dream possible.
What are drunken Noodles?
The original drunken noodle recipe originated as a Thai dish made in a stir-fry fashion with a special sauce and thick noodles. The story goes that this dish was a favorite of local alcoholics who needed to “quench their thirst” after a night out on the town.
How did you incorporate the classic with this unique twist?
We took the traditional style and combined Italian flavors. Use thick noodles to soak up the sauce and make for a hearty dish you will love on a super chilly day or for a regular weeknight meal (you may lay on the couch for an hour after because you are so full). Instead of using chicken or beef, we substituted for Italian sausage which brings a vibrant and robust flavor that has a slightly spicy flavor which is balanced out by the slight bitterness from the parmesan cheese. Now add bell peppers, garlic, and basil for a dinner dish you will love.
What side dish would pair well with this Italian Drunken Noodle recipe?
As with most italian-inspired recipes; we recommend a refreshing side salad to cut the heaviness of the pasta. No italian dish is complete without buttery garlic bread to soak up all the flavor of the seasonings. For the adults out there who need a moment of relaxation or spending a date night in; a glass of white wine compliments the flavor. White cooking wine is used to flavor the dish so it’s only fitting to keep that traditon going.
I don’t really eat sausage; what else could you recommend?
Chicken is an all-time favorite for italian dishes so we think it’s only fair to mention! Grill your chicken either in butter or olive oil until both sides are golden brown and the center is still juicy. Cut into small slices, and combine with the other ingredients for a perfect meal!
