If you’re new to poke cake, it’s a cake that you poke holes in using a fork, chopstick or wooden spoon handle.

And then you pour over the filling and it sinks into the holes. Some poke cake recipes use Jell-O which sets in the holes, adding texture as well as flavor to the cake.

This one has a creamy filling rather than Jell-O. That’s why something bigger than a fork is needed. Liquid Jell-O will sink through tiny holes but this filling won’t, so you can use the handle of a wooden spoon or a chopstick instead.
