These Keto Crab Cakes are a trust taste of the East Coast, packed with lump crab meat and flavor and none of the carbs!
If you’ve ever visited the East Coast of the United States, particularly areas like Maine or Boston, you’ll have run into crab cakes. These areas love crab everything, from crab rolls to fresh crab to crab cakes. It’s hard to walk into a restaurant without finding several crab dishes on the menu.
While I haven’t yet discovered a keto alternative to crab rolls, it was surprisingly easy to create a keto-friendly crab cake recipe. I replaced the bread crumbs with almond flour and pork rinds and viola, keto crab cakes!
The most important part of this recipe is to use REAL crab, typically found as lump crab meat. Imitation crab may be cheaper but it’s packed with chemicals and additives that may contain wheat, turning this keto recipe into a carb-fest.
Not to mention, did you know how healthy crab actually is? I know we think of it as something drowned in butter but crab itself is actually a healthy protein. Crab is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, phosphorous which helps your bones, vitamin B2, selenium, and can even work as an antioxidant to boost your immunity! Who knew!
How To Make Keto Crab Cakes:
Step 1. In a bowl, break up crab meat with a fork.
Step 2. Add egg.
Step 3. Toss in all other ingredients, except olive oil, and mix completely until evenly combined.
Step 4. Let the mixture sit for 2-3 minutes before forming 4 equally-sized patties.
Step 5. Heat olive oil and butter over medium heat.
Step 6. Cook each keto crab cake for 3-5 minutes on each side, until crispy and browned.
Step 7. Serve warm with sour cream and chives or parsley.
Enjoy!
What variations can I make to Keto Crab Cakes?
Feel free to switch up the seasonings used. Some people like a spicer crab cake or prefer to use Old Bay Seasoning instead of the ones I used.
How should I serve these Keto Crab Cakes?
Keto Crab Cakes are a great appetizer or a light meal. When serving as an appetizer, I may even make smaller individual patties. Keto crab cakes also taste delicious on a salad for a light lunch.
