As a kid, do you remember seeing a container sitting on the counter full of what looked like sludge that your grandma saved for cooking? She would scoop a tablespoon out, add it to the pan and cook you some of the best food you have ever had.
Well, this recipe provides you with the steps to do just that; Freezing Single-Serve Bacon Grease.
Now that we have become more health-conscious, we now know that storing this secret ingredient at room temperature is not healthy and it really does need to be frozen or kept in the fridge for safe use.
What could I use this Freezing Single-Serve Bacon Grease with?
The sky is the limit! Obviously, the favorite time to use it is cooking a big breakfast for the family. Cooking your eggs, toast, ham, or potatoes in bacon grease gives you a rich flavor and adds that dimension of pork flavor to each dish. Especially if you are a bacon lover and seem to have run out. You can still enjoy the flavor without making a quick trip to the store.
There are so many options, but some of the more unique ones are using it to pop your popcorn, grill your grilled cheese sandwich, roast your vegetables, and fry burgers. The popcorn trick we have not yet tried ourselves, but if you have make sure to let us know in the comment section below how it turned out!
How long does it last in the freezer?
If stored properly, in an airtight container in the freezer; you could enjoy your savory sauce for up to three months!
Storing them in serve-single pieces makes it super easy! Just pop one out of your tray, add it to your pan, watch it melt, and cook away! That way there is no more mess, no more side counter jar you are digging out of. If your bacon grease is already hardened and cold, place it into a large measuring cup with a spout, and microwave it for 1 minute or until it is just melted. If it is already melted, make sure it has cooled to a temperature that will not melt or damage your egg carton.
Pour some of the bacon greases into each of the sections of the egg carton. They should be filled about ¾ of the way to the top.
Place the filled egg carton into the freezer for 30 minutes, and allow the bacon grease to harden.
Pop the individual bacon grease seasonings out of the egg carton sections, and place them into a Ziploc bag or other airtight container. Store in the freezer, and use as needed in the amount needed for each recipe.
